Treatment is provided on an outpatient basis at St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center,
under the expert supervision of medical oncologists
who are specially trained to treat your specific type
of cancer. Our medical oncologists meet with you and
your family to determine an individualized treatment
plan using medicines to treat malignant (cancerous)
cells. Your doctor then monitors your progress throughout
the course of treatment, adjusting your medication as
needed.
The medical oncologists at the Cancer Center work with a team of
professionals, including an advanced practice nurse
and a social worker. Patients also have access to a
registered dietitian and complementary therapy practitioners.
Multiple languages are spoken by the medical oncologists
at St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center, and translators
are available when needed. This team approach allows
for personalized care that is supportive, well rounded
and easy to access.
Our treatment area is designed to provide ultimate
comfort, with oversized recliners and private rooms
equipped with a telephone, television, movies, music,
and extra seating for your loved ones who might be visiting.
The treatment area is open 24 hours a day, seven days
a week for your convenience, and our expert nursing
staff is available at any time, day or night, to answer
questions about your care or help you manage issues
that may arise after treatment. If you have complications
at home or require immediate urgent attention, the Cancer Center
is equipped to stabilize and provide immediate treatment,
so a visit to a hospital emergency department is usually
unnecessary.
