Biography: Jeremy Winell, MD, is a member of the Psychiatry Department at St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York City. Dr. Winell practices psycho-oncology, a psychiatry specialization focusing on the evaluation and treatment of the emotional impact and psychiatric complications of cancer and cancer treatments. He works with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, including oncologists, surgeons and radiologists, to create unique treatment plans for each patient.

Board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine, Dr. Winell counsels patients recently diagnosed with or undergoing treatment for cancer. He evaluates their level of emotional distress and provides treatment through counseling, psychotherapy and medication management. Dr. Winell provides individual and family counseling sessions and also co-leads several therapy interventions with the Center's social workers.

A member of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Winell is experienced in consultation-liaison psychiatry. He recently completed a two-year fellowship with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He completed his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City and attended medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. He is a graduate of Haverford College, Haverford, PA.

Dr. Winell was named Chief Fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in the 2004-2005 academic year and served as Chief Resident at St. Vincent's Hospital. He received the Janssen Psychiatry Resident Award of Excellence, the C. Harold Taylor Psychotherapy Award and the Gertrude Albert Heller Award. He published review articles in the medical journal Oncology and is a member of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine as well as the Society for Liaison Psychiatry.
